Well, to know which of these washing machines would be very suitable for your household, you should understand them first. If you're on the market for a new washing machine, the very first question you'll ask yourself is: Front Loader or Top Loader? If you have limited space in the laundry room, I'd say go for a front loader but they cost a lot and moving them is usually very difficult. On the other hand, if you have limited financial resources (money), then I'd say go for a top loader washing machine, afterall 75% of people who are on the market for a washing machine go for top loaders but they're not as efficient as the front loaders and sometimes the washer tubs are too deep and retrieving clothes from it would be difficult for some members of the house. I do hope that at the end of this post that you'll be able to answer this particularly disturbing yet necessary question and go for the washing machine that is best suitable for you.

I think everybody can agree with me that doing the laundry is NEVER fun. But it would however, be easier if you had a washing machine to lessen the load of work for you. Now, for you to be able to choose between a front loader  and a top loader washing machine, you should know a few things about them.
We'll look at the basic differences between these washing machines:
  • ·         Wash cycle
  • ·         Price
  • ·         Maintenance
  • ·         Efficiency

Wash Cycle

Ok, so wash cycle. What does that even mean? Well, the wash cycle of a washing machine refers to the amount of time it takes to wash a set or loading of clothes. A front loader takes longer time to complete a wash cycle. It takes an average of an hour (there are some cases where some front loaders take up to 3 hours, that's a lot of time!) whereas a top loader takes about 15-30 minutes. Note that the front loader generally out-performs the top loader in terms of cleanliness of the washed clothes so don't judge the front loader yet.

Price

Simple non-complex top loader washing machines are generally cheaper than their counterparts. However, the complex high efficiency (HE) top loaders are  more expensive because they are almost as efficient as front loader washing machines and they come with additional useful features like steam wash, etc. You should note that the capacity of the a washing machine also affects its price. Don't expect a 6kg washing machine to be the same price as an 8kg one.  Wash Capacity of a washing machine simply means the amount  in weight(kg) of clothes that it can take in one wash cycle without 'overloading' the washing machine. Overloading a front loader is very risky as it can cause the laundry machine to malfunction and it wouldn't last as long as it's normally supposed to . The bigger the wash capacity, the higher the price.

Maintenance

Even after you purchase any of these washing machines - whether front loader or top loader, you'll still have to maintain it properly for it to last long. Maintaining the front loader may not be easy and may take a lot from some people. The front loader requires specific (and most time expensive) detergent and even after purchasing the detergent, not using it correctly (adding too few or too much detergent) will affect the washing machine negatively. Also, in case of the washing machine having damaged parts, it's very scarce and sometimes very expensive to get spare parts for the washing machine. However, this is a problem for only those in Nigeria and some parts of Africa.
It's not the same for top loaders, though. Top loaders don't need special detergent, although the amount of detergent you put into the machine will affect the outcome of the clothes. So don't expect very clean clothes when you put in very little detergent. Some HE top loaders require special detergent though, but those are the complex more expensive ones!
If you have the resources for maintaining a front loader washing machine, I say you should go for it.

Efficiency

Now, let's look at a very important fact about these washing machines. Afterall, washing machines are those big boxes that wash our clothes by spinning them around water and detergent. But how well do they wash these clothes, how much water and electricity do they use during the washing process.
Well, everybody knows that anywhere and anytime, the front loader washing machine always  out-performs the top loader in case of how clean they wash our clothes. They use less water and the drum spins the clothes, rotates them and drops them somewhat harshly producing way cleaner clothes than most top loaders would. Note that even though the front loaders' style of washing may sound harsh, they are softer on clothes.
Also, studies show that front loaders use less electricity than top loaders and top loaders use 38-76% more water annually than front loaders do. So I would say that top loaders are more expensive to maintain if we want our clothes to be clean.
Even though front loaders are generally more efficient than most top loaders, if you don't have enough resources to purchase and maintain them, I'd say go for a top loader, maybe a HE one if you prefer top loaders.
Extras
A little more not-so-significant facts about these portable washing machines.
Front Loaders acquire molds faster. That's because they have really tight lids to prevent water leakage during wash cycles. Because of this, it becomes warm and foggy and produce those foul-smelling molds.

Front Loaders wring out more water than top loaders so they don't have to spend too much time in the dryer. Also, most front loaders can carry dryers on top of them so create space for other things in the laundry room.
Front Loaders cannot add clothes mid-wash. So in case you forgot some keys or money or jewelry in the pockets of any of the clothes, you won't be able to retrieve until the wash cycle is over. An exception to this drawback is  the new Samsung washing machine's AddWash feature for front loaders.
If you're considering going for top loader washing machines, then you should consider how deep the tub is, cos if it's too deep, it'll be difficult for some members of the family to reach some of the clothes in the tub.
Summary
